St. Louis Park High School is seeking a dedicated and passionate CTE Health Science Teacher. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses within the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Health Science program, specifically focusing on the following subjects:
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
  • Adulting & Wellness
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide quality instruction aligned to the state and national standards. Use a variety of assessment strategies - diagnostic, formative and summative, to inform instructional decisions and increase student self-management of learning. Rigorous inquiry-based learning tasks engage students in deep content of the discipline as well as the habits of scholarship.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Have a working knowledge of and implement the Minnesota State Standards and the District Graduation Requirements; knowledge of the subject matter, classroom management techniques, and current researched best practices and strategies, as well as students' learning styles and needs, both academic and affective.
  • Teach students the required curricula using strategies that foster thinking, reasoning and problem solving.
  • Collaborate with peers to develop, plan and implement best practices based on the needs/abilities of the students.
  • Assess students' developmental, cognitive and social needs and provide developmentally appropriate instruction to meet those needs.
  • Create lessons and learning environments that are safe, respectful and interesting as well as multicultural/gender and ability fair/developmentally appropriate.
  • Collaborate and communicate regularly with families in making educational decisions and use family and community resources to support learning.
  • Acquire knowledge of the goals of the School District Agenda and site/school goals. Work to support and achieve those goals.
  • Assess own instructional effectiveness through the Professional Development Process (PDP). Participate in ongoing and regular staff, team and individual professional development.
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that integrate practical skills with theoretical knowledge.
  • Prepare students for careers in the health science field by providing hands-on learning experiences.
  • Foster a learning environment that encourages student engagement, success, and personal growth.
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the CTE curriculum and share best practices.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in health science education.
  • Ensure compliance with all educational standards and regulations.

Curriculum Development and Instruction:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive health science curriculum that aligns with state and national standards.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and effective lessons that cover topics such as medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, healthcare systems, and patient care.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs and to promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Student Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
  • Assess student performance through formative and summative assessments, projects, and practical examinations.
  • Provide timely feedback to students and parents regarding academic progress.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and attendance.
Classroom Management:
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning.
Professional Development:
  • Stay current with developments in the health science field and integrate new knowledge into teaching practices.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and educational workshops to enhance teaching skills.
Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, administrators, and industry partners to enhance the health science program.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding student performance, program expectations, and opportunities for career advancement.
Program Promotion and Student Engagement:
  • Promote the health science program through various channels, including school events, community outreach, and partnerships with local healthcare organizations.
  • Encourage student participation in relevant extracurricular activities, internships, and certification programs.
Safety and Compliance:
  • Ensure a safe and secure learning environment by adhering to health and safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Maintain and manage classroom and laboratory equipment and supplies, ensuring proper use and storage.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Applied Health Science, Health/Physical Education, Nursing, or a related field.
  • Candidates must possess or be willing to obtain the appropriate Career and Technical Education (CTE) license for Health Science within a specified timeframe.
  • Experience in healthcare or related fields; prior teaching experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive learning environment.

  • A valid Minnesota teaching license or proof of pending approved licensure in content areas:
    • Health
    • Physical Education
