Northwood Academy Charter School POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position: Chief Administrative Officer Department: Office of the CEO

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Direct Reports: Assistant Principals, Director of Operations, Deans, Social Worker Supervisor

Position Summary: Under the leadership of the Chief Executive Officer, this position is responsible for overseeing the overall operations and academic performance here at NACS. The CAO directly supervises the Assistant Principals, Director of Operations, and Deans, Social Worker Supervisor, and leads

school-wide initiatives to improve student achievement; essentially acting as the primary leader for school leadership.

Essential Accountabilities:

  • Leads data driven efforts to improve academic outcomes for students at NACS
  • Develops strategies to execute instructional as well as social and emotional objectives to foster a positive culture for staff and students
  • Builds systems of accountability within all departments (Academics, SPED, Culture, Operations, Social Work, etc.)
  • Works with school leadership to closely monitor school improvement through a cycle of continuous improvement and sound management practices
  • Provides frequent, actionable feedback to school leadership to improve their leadership practice and achieve better results.
  • Manages and supports implementation of the strategic plan initiatives related to the academic and operational outcomes of the school
  • Creates school calendar, school wide special events, and year-long Professional Development calendar
  • Manages and evaluates school leadership including assessing their effectiveness using established metrics.
  • Works with school leadership to ensure that students have equitable opportunities to develop skills and achieve the content and learning priorities established by NACS
  • Fosters meaningful relationships with families and community partners to provide holistic support for students at NACS
  • Develops communication and collaboration systems that ensure smooth flow of information, both vertically and horizontally, to enable all resources to be focused on high priority goals for NACS and ensure the sharing and implementation of best practices
  • Seeks and implements innovative and adaptive solutions to educational and organizational challenges to close achievement gaps
  • Continually informs the CEO and the School Board when appropriate about all current issues and proposed resolutions
  • Performs related duties as required or assigned

Education/Experience:

  • Master’s Degree Required
  • Holds a PK-12 Principal Certification
  • At least five (5) years of school leadership experience
  • At least three (3) years of central office administrative leadership experience
  • Successful large-scale educational project management preferred

  • Accurate and precise attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to produce comprehensive reports and deliver presentations
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks, projects and responsibilities; possesses the flexibility to adapt as necessary

Working Conditions: Work is regularly performed in a combination of indoor and outdoor school environments. The noise level in this environment is quiet to loud depending on the activity in the particular part of the day.

Physical Requirements: Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 50 lbs. Able to work around cleaning products. Able to perform tasks outside as required.
