UTMB is home to the first medical school in Texas, has been at the forefront of educational, research and clinical excellence since 1891. UTMB has graduated more health professionals than any other academic health center in the state. Over the last 5 years, UTMB has expanded from a single hospital on the Island of Galveston to a four-hospital health care system covering the Southeastern Houston healthcare market. UTMB is a member of the Texas Medical Center (TMC), has an annual budget over $2 billion, and has the second most hospital discharges in the TMC system. UTMB is also one of only three Level I Trauma Centers in greater Houston area. Along with the rapid clinical expansion, the organization has kept a focus on quality, achieving top ten status in Vizient in three of the last five years.
The UTMB Department of Internal Medicine, Department of Medical Oncology provides comprehensive state-of-the-art multidisciplinary cancer care for all stages of cancer. This includes common cancers such as breast, prostate, lung, and colon as well as blood cancers such as lymphomas and leukemia. Each of our oncology physicians is American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) certified in Medical Oncology. Our physicians are also actively involved in clinical research and conduct a myriad of clinical trials including those in conjunction with NIH sponsored groups such as the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG).
Medical Oncology Faculty opportunity - The selected candidate will serve as an active clinician, providing comprehensive care to patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Responsibilities will include diagnosing and treating various oncologic conditions, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop personalized treatment plans, and ensuring high-quality patient-centered care.
In addition to clinical duties, the candidate will play a key role in medical education, actively engaging in the teaching and mentorship of medical students, residents, and fellows. The successful candidate will contribute to academic activities, including participation in clinical trials and research initiatives, with opportunities to publish findings and present at professional conferences.
The role requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, a commitment to advancing the field of oncology, and a dedication to improving patient outcomes through innovative treatments and evidence-based practices.
