Job Description

Summary

Harris Teeter provides training for associates with extensive customer contact. Direct unresolved customer comments or complaints to management. Positive customer relations enhance Harris Teeter's public image and drive customer loyalty.

The primary responsibility is to take excellent care of customers, ensuring their needs are met and their shopping experience is satisfying. The role involves managing the Personal Shopper program, including downloading internet orders and assisting as a bagger or cashier when needed.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Customer Service
    • Demonstrate the highest level of customer service; never be rude to a customer.
    • Follow through on customer requests, involving a manager if needed.
    • Focus entirely on the customer and their order, including:
      • Making eye contact and smiling at every customer.
      • Speaking enthusiastically and clearly.
      • Greet customers and their families, particularly children.
      • Always thank customers for shopping.
  • Maintain work area; download and shop internet orders; operate POS register; bag and stage orders; communicate with customers and store associates.
  • Reflect a professional image; adhere to grooming standards and dress according to company policy.
  • Be reliable and punctual; notify supervisors of lateness or absence at least two hours in advance.
  • Communicate in English with customers and associates about products and promotions.
  • Inform management of advertising discrepancies or departmental changes.
  • Perform light duties when business is slow (e.g., sweeping, cleaning).
  • Adapt to various situations and shift priorities without stress.
  • Assist fellow associates and perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Keep stores clean according to health department requirements.
  • Follow safety regulations and report hazards or accidents immediately.
  • Handle chemicals properly according to safety manuals.
  • Build an environment of trust and integrity among associates.
  • Comply with company standards and perform essential job functions.

Personal Skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Willingness to participate in training and teamwork to enhance customer satisfaction and sales.

Language Skills Ability to read and understand instructions in English, write simple correspondence, and effectively present information in English.

Mathematical Skills Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and calculate discounts in American currency.

Reasoning Ability Apply commonsense understanding to follow instructions and solve problems with concrete variables.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Valid Driver's License and completion of company training.

Physical Demands Regularly required to stand, walk, and lift up to 75 pounds with occasional assistance required for heavier weights.

Work Environment Exposure to wet conditions, moving parts, and moderate noise levels.
