Department of Radiology, specifically the Interventional Radiology Department at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania is looking for a Physician Assistant to join our team.The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in evaluating and managing drain/tube patients, performing procedures, and rounding within the hospital. The schedule rotates between procedures and rounding weekly. This position will be Monday to Friday 8:00a-5:00p with no holiday/weekend/on -call. Hour flexibility available3 weeks per month is procedural based and 1 week per month for rounding.Responsibilities:Provides direct clinical care for patient population according to established protocols and utilizes evidence-based practice standards in collaboration with team.Maintains accurate and confidential medical records. Documents all medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatments, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations consistent with organizational standards in the electronic health record (EHR).Identifies self properly to the patient and family, and clarifies the role of the nurse practitioner or physician assistant if necessary.The APP should function within their scope and refer to the collaborating/supervising physician when outside of scope, and/or directed by the physician or when requested by the patient and/or family. Performs interventions specific to assigned patient population and collaborative/written agreement.Participates in the performance improvement processes to meet quality of care and service standards.Demonstrates awareness of professional responsibility as role model to peers and members of the health care team.Perform approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based upon patient's clinical status.Addresses patient and family concerns and creates a therapeutic relationship to provide support.Provide patient education, counseling and instruction regarding patient diagnosis, medical treatments, medications, and preventative care.Participate in and support accreditation, compliance and regulatory activities of the organization.Precept students and other health care learners.Identifies patient/family needs for community resources and refers appropriately.Key Responsibilities:Diagnostic and Therapeutic Procedures: Perform diagnostic procedures including feeding tube exchanges (G, J, GJ), biliary drain exchanges, Nephrostomy (PCN and PCNU) tube exchanges, abscess drain exchanges, chest tube exchanges and management, paracentesis, thoracentesis, and removal of drains.Hospital Care Management: Work collaboratively with attending physicians, residents, and APPs in managing drain/tube patients within the hospital. Provide care, education, and discharge instructions during their hospital stay.Coordination of Care: Manage the coordination of care for drain/tube patients both inpatient and outpatient.Patient Evaluation: Conduct evaluations of patients prior to their arrival for their drain/tube procedures. This includes reviewing medical histories, medications, and lab work. Conduct outpatient consultations for new drain placement.Team Collaboration: Working closely with 15 IR attendings, residents, 2 procedural PA-C, and joining a collaborative team of 8 radiology APPs. Professional Development: Encouraged to participate in national Interventional Radiology meetings. Presentation at these events is supported but not mandatory.Credentials:National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistant (Required)Physician Assistant (Required)Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)Advanced Cardiac Life SupportEducation or Equivalent Experience:Master of Arts or Science (Required)And 2+ years >2.5 years experience. The Physician Assistant must be reviewed by the Credentials Committee and approved by the medical board.
