Job Description

Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Project Developer to lead the advancement of our client’s cutting-edge solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects throughout the ERCOT region. This role demands strategic oversight and hands-on coordination of cross-disciplinary teams, external consultants, and regulatory agencies to deliver sustainable, high-impact renewable energy solutions. The successful candidate will be instrumental in driving the end-to-end project lifecycle, from initial site identification to the commencement of construction, ensuring every project aligns with our rigorous performance and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Project Development:

  • Identify and assess viable opportunities for large-scale solar and BESS projects, ensuring each initiative is economically robust and aligned with industry best practices.
  • Lead comprehensive feasibility studies, leveraging technical, environmental, and financial insights to drive sound decision-making from concept to implementation.

Cross-Functional Leadership:

  • Direct and integrate efforts across multiple internal teams—including interconnection, permitting, real estate, GIS, and engineering—to ensure seamless project execution in a hybrid work environment.
  • Establish clear project milestones, track progress, and implement proactive measures to keep initiatives on schedule and within budget, while balancing inputs from legal, finance, and executive leadership.

Regulatory & Compliance Management:

  • Oversee the intricate regulatory landscape by managing zoning, permitting, and compliance with local and regional government requirements.
  • Collaborate with environmental experts to interpret study results, ensuring all projects adhere to environmental standards and land rights regulations.

Consultant & Partner Engagement:

  • Source, select, and manage relationships with third-party consultants and development partners.
  • Craft detailed proposals, evaluate quotes, and lead RFP processes to secure the best strategic and technical partners for each project.

Market & Industry Insight:

  • Continuously monitor evolving renewable energy trends and emerging technologies, positioning our client to capitalize on new opportunities and maintain a competitive advantage.
  • Analyze market conditions and regulatory changes, adapting project strategies to optimize performance and long-term sustainability.

Qualifications

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degrees (MBA, MS in Engineering, or related field) are highly desirable.

Professional Experience:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years' experience in utility-scale project development, specifically within the solar or BESS sectors.
  • Demonstrated success in managing complex projects, coordinating multiple stakeholders, and navigating challenging regulatory environments.

Skill Set:

  • Strong leadership and team collaboration skills, with a proven ability to drive projects forward in a fast-paced, ever-changing industry landscape.
  • Exceptional problem-solving capabilities and sound business judgment, with the aptitude to prioritize effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling effective collaboration with internal teams, external partners, and regulatory bodies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel) and familiarity with project management tools.

Location & Work Environment

  • This role is based in Texas, with a preference for candidates located in or near Houston.
  • Enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work environment, balancing remote collaboration with on-site project engagements.
